Website hosting and security

This website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, provided by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you visit, Cloudflare processes technical connection and request data, including your IP address, the requested URL, the time of the request and browser information, and, depending on the request, referrer and security data. This processing delivers the website, supports reliable operation and protects against attacks.

The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). My legitimate interest is to provide a secure, functioning website. Technical connection data is necessary to deliver the pages; the website cannot be provided without processing it.

Recipients include Cloudflare and the subprocessors involved in providing its services. Data may be processed outside the EU or European Economic Area, particularly in the United States. For transfers covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, Cloudflare identifies the adequacy decision under Article 45 GDPR as the basis; for other applicable restricted transfers, its agreement provides for EU Standard Contractual Clauses under Article 46 GDPR. According to its privacy policy, Cloudflare acts as a controller for certain network data and as a processor for customer data and customer logs. Details about these roles, safeguards and available guarantees are provided in Cloudflare’s privacy policy and Data Processing Addendum.

Technical data is retained according to what is needed for delivery, troubleshooting and security, and to meet legal obligations. Security incidents may require longer retention for investigation and legal claims. Cloudflare explains its retention criteria in the privacy policy linked above.

Email enquiries

If you email me, I process your email address, message and any information you voluntarily provide to respond to your enquiry. The email service providers involved also process this data. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR (my interest in responding to enquiries), or Article 6(1)(b) GDPR for enquiries relating to a contract or steps before entering into one. Providing this information is voluntary, but I may be unable to reply without sufficient contact details.

Correspondence is deleted when it is no longer needed to handle the enquiry or follow-up questions, unless legal retention obligations or legitimate grounds for preserving legal claims require otherwise.

Fonts, links and browser features

The website uses system fonts and self-hosted mathematics fonts. Interactive illustrations perform their calculations locally in your browser. The website code does not embed advertising trackers, analytics tools or social media plugins. GitHub and LinkedIn links are ordinary links; you reach those providers only when you open them.

The website code does not set its own cookies or store information in local browser storage. The hosting provider’s technical security features are separate from this. Cloudflare provides information about cookies that its security features may use.

Your rights

Subject to the applicable legal conditions, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time with effect for the future.

You may object to processing based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR on grounds relating to your particular situation (Article 21 GDPR). To exercise your rights, contact me at the email address above.

You may lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, particularly in the place of your habitual residence, work or the alleged infringement. In Saxony, this is the Saxon Data Protection and Transparency Commissioner.

I do not carry out automated decision-making, including profiling, within the meaning of Article 22 GDPR.
